Google is always trying to identify sites that build links, to be able to devalue the links or even the sites. Having no "nofollow"-links looks really suspicious, because a natural backlink profile includes both follow and nofollow-links.
So if you have no nofollow-links, but your competitors have, Google will assume their backlink profile to be natural, whereas yours is gamed.
Also, nofollow-links don't really mean (anymore) there's no direct value in them. A Wikipedia link will always transport value to your site, even though it's nofollow. In short:
1. You need nofollow to look natural.
2. Having a nofollow-link from a strong site doesn't hurt.

Hi!<br

For quite some time, when I post a new blog article, I use the WP open in a new page or open on the same page, but since using the SEOPressor plug-in and reading various SEO sites (like yours) I keep reading that no-follow is a must do. Not sure WHY this is the case and would like to know in more detail the reasons for this no-follow?

Over all, this is good info, but I am still a little unclear on the whole “unfollow” concept? SEO's get caught up in doing things that only other SEO's can appreciate. We need to remember google cares about improving the user experience not the SEO experience.Keep it up.

Chris,

Great story. If PR didnt matter then wouldnt that mean nofollow doesnt matter?Good Post Chris, I liked it.

If PageRank no longer ment anything to the Google Algo then why would Google care if you purchased links or not?

If PR didnt matter than why would Google severely penalize websites that are caught buying links?

If it didnt matter then why are Google still talking large sites into using nofollow on some sections? So the question at any given time is, how long will the techniques that are working today continue working? When will Google catch on to what you are doing and smack you down again? Any SEO that knows the answers to these questions should contact me immediately!!

The truth is that the truth in SEO changes over time.
